Posted over 2 years ago
We are pleased to present the slate of candidates for chapter officers and board of directors for 2023/2024.
Please take a few moments to read their election statements.
Voting will take place Thursday, April 13 - Sunday, April 23. An email with a link to vote will be sent to each member.
Candidate for the office of President

For our 2023-2024 year my priority goal is to engage more members to participate in education events, chapter involvement, and benefit from the advantages of membership in our professional organization. I recognize the many challenges perioperative nurses face to ensure safety, quality, and compassionate care. As President I hope to impact our membership, over 600 strong, in a way that demonstrates how chapter involvement can support their efforts to deliver that care. An equally important task is to identify creative ways we can promote our practice to the next generation. Investment in current nursing students now is crucial to the future of perioperative nursing practice.
Candidate for the office of Vice President

Hi, my name is Margina Villatoro and I would love to serve as the Vice president of our chapter one more year. I feel that I have learned so much during the last year and will continue to provide the chapter with educational opportunities that are relevant for the Operating Room. I think the chapter is working hard to engage more members and I would love to help with it by continuing being the vice president. Thank you for your vote.
Candidate for the office of Recording Secretary

I have been an OR circulating RN and AORN member for almost 7 years. I am a dedicated to my passions in this field and have maintained a SN III position in my department since 2019. I love working in the operative room setting but there is much more that goes into this career path and I would appreciate being involved in the AORN SF chapter to see what other passions may come with my involvement.
Thank you for your time and consideration in my nomination for the office of Recording Secretary.
Candidates for Board Member

I have been a member of AORN since becoming a perioperative nurse over 35 years ago, joining AORN of Alameda County, where I served as a secretary for 8 years. When AORN of Alameda disbanded in 2016, I joined AORN of San Francisco and Marin. I have since served in the office of corresponding secretary, president-elect, and two terms as president. I am currently serving my third term as president. I have attended the AORN Global Surgical Conference and Expo 12 times, 10 of them as a chapter delegate in the last 14 years.

"Reasons tied to your purpose, identity and values will sufficiently motivate you to act, even in the face of all of the daily obstacles that life puts in your way.” ~ Jim Kwik
I have been an OR nurse for 31 of my 33 years in nursing. A CVOR nurse 24 out of the 31 years in the OR. In my career, my identities are a caregiver, healing hand, listener, motivator and comforter to name a few.
My purpose as a nurse is the well being of my patients, making sure their dignity is maintained, keeping them safe from harm by ensuring they receive the right procedure, given the right medications at the right time with the right dose, safe from fire risks and complications from positioning as well as surgical site infections. The list can go on and on.
This is achieved by the nursing values that I hold dear:
Human dignity - treating patients with kindness and thoughtfulness while maintaining their privacy.
Integrity - giving ethical and quality care by making moral and honest decisions.
Social justice - providing the same standard of care to every patient despite economic status, gender, color, ethnicity, etc.
Compassion - listening to concerns, a gentle touch during procedures/treatments, being an attentive listener, attending to needs/requests quickly and speaking kindly.
Accountability - being honest and to come forward acknowledging mistakes and learning from those moments.
Professionalism - maintaining a standard of conduct to demonstrate that you understand the importance of being a nurse and performing your duties well while striving to continue to improve your performance which is another quality of being a nurse, Excellence. We aim to provide excellent care by continually seeking knowledge through higher education, seminars/webinars, classes, AORN Congress, etc.
Despite the many hats I wear daily as a wife, mother, housekeeper, grandmother, CVOR circulator and scrub; I am ready to serve as a board member for our local AORN chapter. If elected, I will abide by the responsibilities as placed upon me as a board member. I look forward to serving our chapter.
